SPRING HAS SPRUNG! If you are cleaning your house and getting rid of the OLD and making room for NEW, the White Elephant Booth is looking for Japanese items to sell at the Obon Festival. Any Japanese items: tea sets, dishes, pictures, scrolls, Kokeshi Dolls, Japanese Dolls, etc. Last year we even sold hapi coats and kimonos: they were a hit. Last year we made close to $2,000.00 from your donations to the White Elephant Booth which were very much appreciated. If you have any items to donate, please contact me or any other Obon Committee members.
Our second Fundraiser is just around the corner: the Golf Tournament scheduled for Saturday, May 18th. We are always looking for volunteers to help us in this event. If you have any time in your busy schedule to help, please let us know.
It seems that I am always asking for volunteers to help at these fundraisers. They are not just members but also friends of the church. Your dana (selfless giving) benefits our church and keeps it going for the year. We, the board members, are truly grateful for all your help. DOMO ARIGATO!!

Driving around the beautiful hills of the Central Coast we are treated to bursts of yellow, blues, golds and
purples of the wildflowers. After a long winter it is so refreshing to be surrounded by beautiful flowers of all
colors and shapes. Growing up in Hawaii, there are flowers blooming throughout the year so as beautiful
as they are you do get used to seeing them. Maybe that makes me appreciate the springtime here with
fresh green leaves on the trees and the flowers blooming on bushes, trees and on the ground. Check out the
blooms on our church grounds from the wisteria, cherry trees and so many others that I don’t know their names.
On May 4 SLOBC will have our Spring Odori so please plan to attend and join in the dances then enjoy the
vegetarian curry and rice that SLOBWA will prepare. This event is meant as a fun enjoyable day with other
members and friends of the church. Ichimi Daiko will be providing the drum beats and then a short performance. We always enjoy hearing Ichimi Daiko!
The annual SLOBC golf tournament will be held on May 18 at the beautiful Cypress Ridge Golf Course.
We appreciate help from our members to make this a successful event. Even if you don’t play golf, there are
many areas where help is needed so please contact our church. The Chair for this event has been working very hard coordinating all aspects of the tournament and we need to help him in any way we can as SLOBC benefits from all the efforts. Besides you will have a fun time if you are out there!
