In Gassho,

The Temple Golf tournament had about 130 golfers participating and enjoying a great BBQ dinner at the Hayashi Ranch. Alan Hayashi, the chairman, did a fantastic job organizing this event. The kitchen crew started preparing one day before and completed everything in the morning of the tournament. Everything went very smoothly and was very successful this year.

Unfortunately, the 'Temple Minister - John Hayashi' team was one stroke off the champion.

Golf and Buddhism go together. Buddhists understand golf; golfers understand Buddhism. Golfers have to consider the course and weather conditions and use their own balls and clubs. Players are responsible for their own results, just like our karma in every day life. There is no one to blame.

More than 15 years ago at a temple, Rev. Fujii found out temple members did not have any particular hobbies so he recommended golf in order to deepen their understanding of Buddhism. Several of them accepted his word and started golfing. Year by year, the number of golfers kept increasing, and they became crazy about it. Unfortunately, they forgot Sunday services and kept playing.

Nyu-Mon Shiki

Congratulations to those who entered the gate of Buddhism! Nyu-Mon Shiki was observed twice this year: first one on baby Buddha's birthday in April, and second one on Shinran Shonin's birthday in May.

More than 20 people joined. The adults received Ojyuzu, Okesa, and a book on Buddhism. Children received Okyuzu and a book as well.

May the Wisdom of Buddha lead and protect them and may they live in Compassion of Buddha. .................................................................. In Gassho,

Donations for White Elephant Sale

It's that time again. Time to clean out your closets, attics, and garages for a great cause. Obon season is upon us (Aug. 7th) and we need your donations to make this year's White Elephant sale a smashing success.

Among all our usual requests, we're also asking for toys, baby clothes, games, books, artifical flowers, and anything JAPANESE. We welcome all donations, but please leave your cell phones, cameras, or large heavy items at home. Please deliver your donations to the SLO Buddhist Church by Sunday, July 31, 2010.

Year after year, we are continually amazed by your generosity, Thank You in advance. If you have any questions, please call me. Let's make this year better that the last!
