We are one month closer to our 85th birthday! As you may know, we are in the process of building a handicap |

access to the temple and retrofitting the upstairs restrooms. The Board of Directors and I believe this is a very worthwhile project. Please contact Mr. Henmi to make your donations. Recently, we have had some water pipes break under the floor in the kitchen. It caused quite a mess with the concrete dust and water in the kitchen and social hall. The second break seemed worse as it was not detected for a few days. On the bright side, it did cause some cleaning and reorganization of items under the stairs. I would like to thank the BWA for doing this cleanup work. Michiko Fujii annd Michi Nakai were instrumental in getting this chore done. At this month's board meeting, Mr. Tom Guernsey spoke about a circuit braker that kept popping. Tom called an electrician and it was discovered some wiring had burnt causing a short. Tom and the electrician pulled new wires which corrected the problem with the breaker. Thank you Tom for being there and helping out. Among other repairs, Mr. Henry Okui, Mr. Don Okano, Mr. Tom Guernsey, Mr. John Magna (John Magna Construction), and I removed the old roofing from three of the retreat huts. The fourth hut will need repairs in a year of two. With the recent high winds and rain, the three huts were in desperate need of re-roofing. Upon closer examination, wood underlayment and fascia had deteriorated beyond repair and needed replaced. A few roofing joists were also replaced. It is hopeful that the new fascia will be primed and painted and new roofing felt put down before the retreat group arrives. If there is someone who would like to do painting or cleaning in the retreat area, please give Rev. Fujii or me a call. It is official: Howard Elston will be leading Tai Chi practice. I kind of like to call it 'Tai Chi at the Temple'. This is open to everyone; however it is geared more toward adults and older children. The public is also invited. Tai Chi is a series of slow arm and body movements. There are many sets in Tai Chi. We will be working on the first set. So please, wear loose clothing and good shoes. A bottle of water and a towel is recommended. Since we will be outside on Thursday evenings, I would suggest some mosquito repellant be used. After all the rain, mosquitoes are in abundance. The first Tai Chi class will be Tuesday, July 6th at 6:30pm in the social hall. It will meet every Tuesday and Thursday nights until August 12th. Please call me if you have any questions. Kendo practice is also starting. This is again, open to everyone and will start on Friday, July 9th at 6:00pm. Jason Carter, 4 Dan Kendo, will be the instructor. Mr. Carter also possesses a black belt in Aikido. If you would like to observe a kendo demonstratio, Mr. Carter will be leading a group at this year's Obon. As I have said in the past, if you know someone that does not drive, please offer them a ride to the temple for services, any of the events, or meeting we have. We all appreciate your thoughfulness. Thank you. Until next month, In Gassho, Barry
