SLO BUDDHIST TEMPLE

President's Desk by Donna Sato

Hello Sangha Members,

On May 20th we had our second Fund-raiser, SLOBC’s Golf Tournament. It was over-
whelming to see many of our members out there helping in the BBQ crew, food
shopping, prepar-ing for the event the night before and during the event itself. I would
also like to take this moment in thanking Alan Hayashi for such a GREAT job in making it a successful fundraiser. All the gray hairs he has developed in getting the golfers, solic-iting Hole Sponsors, sending out flyers and corre-sponding to everyone, and coordinating the use of the Hayashi’s ranch for the event have benefitted SLOBC. THANK YOU ALAN!!

I would also like to thank all the members and helpers making the Chirashi, bringing the sup-plies back and forth to the ranch, and making the musubis. To the Signs Maker, Hole Sponsors, Registration Desk, BBQ crew and Hole watchers thank you for such a wonderful job, especially giv-ing up your Saturday to make our fundraiser a successful day. Domo arigato!

In the month of April we had two signifi-cant events. First was the Tri-County Seminar hosted by SLO BWA. There were representatives from Buddhist Church of Santa Barbara, Oxnard Buddhist Temple, Guadalupe Buddhist Church and our own SLOBC. Everyone had a good time. Two speakers from French Medical Center gave us very good information on heart health for women. The second event was the Bon Odori which was fun as we danced with our own Bon Odori teacher Mrs. Julie Conaway. This is our second year for this event which is chaired by Barry Bridge. If you enjoy dancing and don’t have an opportu-nity to dance at our Obon Festival, come out and relax and enjoy the dancing. See ya next year! Thank you Barry and Julie for doing this fun event for us.

If you haven’t sent your Gomoshu orei, it is not too late to send it to SLOBC, PO Box 1755, Pismo Beach, CA 93448. Just a reminder that our third major fund-raiser is just around the corner. Jump on the Obon Festi-val wagon and share in all the fun we have on putting this BIG event together. We need a lot of help from members, families and friends to make this year a suc-cessful one. If you are interested in joining us, contact any Obon committee member or me.

On June 4, after our Sunday service we will have another meeting for SLOBC’s 90th Anniversary. If you are interested in joining us please bring your ideas and share with us in organizing this event.

I also wanted to mention that Ruth Vine is retiring as our Dharma School Supervisor and Teacher. Her dedication to the students has been wonderful. Wishing her the best in her Dharma adventures.
