What is Jodo Shinshu Buddhism? Who is Shinran Honing? How did it become formed and when? Where was Jodo Shinshu founded?

Lots and lots of questions that can be asked about our teachings. Do you want to learn the basics?

A non-lecture series of classes will be starting later in August (time and date to be determined). The series is free but does require a book (a printing fee is required).
This series requires you to read ahead of each meeting and bring your questions; this will not be a lecture but rather an interactive type class.

If you are new to Jodo Shinshu, we just ask that you have previously attended the “Introduction to Buddhism” discussion group before attending this new class. This event is held on the 3rd Sunday of each month starting at 10 AM at SLO Buddhist Church.

Please contact Rev. Nakano (805)595-2625 or email us at

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Hello Sangha Members,

Now that we are ready to embark on our last fundraiser, I would like to remind you that Obon cleanup will be on Monday, August 6 starting at 9 AM and will continue until we are finished. We plan to organize and put away all the items used for the Festival. The more members we have the faster the chores will be done. We are asking members, families and friends to share a few hours of their time helping at the church. We appreciate any
help we can get.

This year’s goals were to update the Retreat area and Reverend Nakano’s house. The Retreat bathrooms
received substantial work to fix damage caused by rodents. New flooring was installed in the Parsonage. Our next goal is to fix up the Shimamoto House. The main emphasis is to remodel its bathroom and possibly install new flooring. If you are good with your hands, we can use your help in this important project. Contact Gary
Hongo if you are willing to lend a hand. Also, sometime in the near future we will be resurfacing our parking lot and driveways. We may need some help in restriping once the surface has been completed.
All these projects require hours of people power to keep our church beautiful. Let’s donate our time and effort to keep our church going.
