Hello Sangha Members,

Domo Arigato!! You are the best for coming out to help make your Obon Festival the church’s best Fundraiser ever. We had some ups and downs during that day but with our wonderful crew, we made it though. Please thank your family and friends for coming out to make our Obon Fundraiser a success.

Just wanted to let you know that the White Elephant Booth did very well this year. The steady flow of people coming to look and buying was fantastic. We made over $2,200 (better than last year). Domo Arigato Gozaimasu to all that donated to the White Elephant and also to my helpers that stood by the booth all day.

We are very fortunate to have a guest speaker on Sunday, September 1. Rev. (Retired) Ken Fujimoto is going to conduct a service for us while our Rev. Nakano is going to be at the World Buddhist Women’s Conference in San Francisco. If you have missed his dharma talk before, this is your opportunity to come and listen to his inspiring sermon. Please come and support him and your church. After service downstairs in the Social Hall, we will have refreshments and take the opportunity to introduce yourself to Rev. Ken. In the future, we will have more guest ministers. If you have any topic that you are interested in listening to, please let me know.

Always looking forward to seeing you at our ser-vices.

The SLOBC Obon Festival was a huge success! There were so many people enjoying the food, festivities and dancing! Thank you to all the wonderful people who contributed to making the Obon another event to remember!

Special thank you’s to the ladies who helped to make the delicious makizushi, spam musubi and inarizushi that sold out completely! We appreciate all the help you provide to make the sushi sale so successful!

Update on the BWA food fundraiser:
SLOBWA will have a delicious beef enchiladas sale on September 28. There will be 3 beef enchiladas in a con-tainer that is easily frozen for future meals. The con-tainer can be heated in the microwave. Tickets are $10 each and will be sent to the BWA members to sell on a presale basis. So please start selling and informing your friends, family and co-workers about the enchilada sale.

SLOBWA and Guadalupe Buddhist Women’s Associa-tion will be responsible for the Coast District Buddhist Women’s League (CDBWL) for the period March 2020 to February 2022. The Board will be installed in November 2019 at the Monterey Buddhist Temple. I am seeking a few good women to serve on the Board for the period. If you are interested in serving, please let me know. We will hold an election in the near future in September or October. More details will be explained later.

There is an email address that can be used for any question related to the SLOBWA: slobc.bwa@gmail.com.
