SLOBWA and I wish to express our deepest condolences to Roy Nakai and the entire Nakai family in the loss of Michi. She was a beautiful, gracious and sweet lady whose smile was quick to appear when you spoke with her. I met Michi just a short 3 years ago. She was already in a wheelchair but could speak a few words and would always ask about my grandson who had medical challenges when he was born. She smiled and nodded when I showed her his latest pictures. I will miss her and her gentle spirit.

Our sympathy is also extended to the Sato Family with the passing of Kay Sato. Kay lived a full and spirited life brimming with love from her entire family. She was very active in the BWA, one of the founding members of People’s Kitchen, and a Dharma School teacher. SLOBC was very fortunate to have a generous and enthusiastic member in Kay Sato.

August 6 and SLOBC Obon are quickly approaching. SLOBWA sponsors a craft booth that sells beautiful, handcrafted items such as tote bags, aprons, note cards and pads, kitchen scrubbers and towels, jewelry items, small plants, and many other unique crafts. We are looking for additional items that members can contribute to attract people and make the craft booth even more profitable. We are also open to suggestions you may have for items that we can make during a craft day at the Church and sell at the Obon Festival. I know there are many creative people in our Sangha willing to contribute their ideas and we have more talented people who are willing to spend time to turn those ideas into real products. Please share your ideas with us. It will be an opportunity to give back to SLOBC.

The SLOBWA Cookbook is on sale. There are many recipes contributed by current members and a few from the cookbook created in 1989. We have a 3-ring binder format for $15 where more recipes can be added in the future. We also have the cookbook in a digital format on a 2 GB flash drive where recipes can also be added to over time. The flash drive can be used for other files as the cookbook takes up a very small portion. The cost of the digital format is $10. Copies of both formats are available at the church on service days, during the Pancake Breakfast on July 2, at the Obon Festival on August 6 and by contacting me at
